McElaney joined the company in 2006 as Lead Strategist, Interactive Technology. Prior to Electronic Ink, McElaney served as Public Affairs Chief for the Combined Joint Force-Horn in Djbouti, Africa. He developed a system that distributed multimedia material to local media outlets in the Middle East and Africa.
McElaney began his career at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, VA. He designed technologies for the Public Affairs Department and conducted reviews of digital properties to identify security vulnerabilities and measure effectiveness. He also served as a squad leader for Combat Augmentation Platoon, 1st Marine Division in Camp Commando, Kuwait, where he was responsible for the training and oversight of 38 U.S. Marines.
McElaney received the Marine Corps Certificate of Commendation by the U.S. Central Command for outstanding Web site design and the use of the Internet as a communications vehicle. Other awards include the Joint Service Commendation Medal for Exceptional Service for actions taken during a two helicopter crash/recovery mission in 2006 and in a professional capacity in 2005. He also received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal for the development of a collaborative intranet application for the Marine Corps Operation Test and Evaluation Activity in 1999.
He also co-authored military policy and documents for critical instruction manuals on developing technologies. He graduated from Midland College in Texas.
